2000 Currency Notes to get banned from Dec 31st?

PM Narendra Modi gave heart attack to many on November 8th midnight by announcing ban on old 1000 and 500 currency notes. RBI replaced new 2000 and 500 currency notes. Many accused that demonetization has failed and 2000 notes will raise black money circulation. It has been speculated for a while that 2000 notes will also get banned.

As per a video going viral on social media, 2000 notes will banned from January 1st. PM Narendra Modi is set to announce ban on the existing 2000 notes on midnight of December 31st. The video went viral last year. It explains that RBI is calibrating ATMs to load new currency notes which would be of 1000 denomination in place of existing 2000 notes.

The new currency will be available from January 1st. The video is being circulated vigorously again as new year’s day is nearing. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and RBI folks have denied these rumours last year itself. But as elections are due to be held in 2019, Modi may revive the thought of banning high denomination notes to control black money flow ahead of elections to make it tough for opposition parties, feel analysts.

Anyways, we have to wait for 31st holding our hearts to know what Modi will announce as new year gift to the citizens.
