Taapsee’s comments on veteran director K Raghavendra Rao in the context to navel obsession in south films has kicked off a healthy debate. Time and again south filmmakers are to face the question whether objectified actresses to sell content weak films. Earlier, Radhika Apte too ridiculed Telugu film industry for being patriarchal.
Coming to our story, Google, the search engine giant also seems to support the argument of these actresses. When we search for ‘North Indian Masala’, Google shows spices and food related results. On the other hand, when we search for ‘South Indian Masala’ on Google, it shows sleazy content with hot images of actresses. It also suggests some keywords like ‘Navel’, ‘Armpit’ etc.
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor took this matter seriously that he complained it to Google CEO Sundar Pichai through his micro-blog handler. The search result showing actress photos is no joke as it also poses threat to south Indian spices trade especially for Kerala.
