BJP government’s proposal to dilute SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act has triggered nationwide rage. The government is planning to file a petition in Supreme Court in this regard,Opposition parties have united in protest against the center’s decision.
The motive is to reduce the fear of law.  The apex court has banned registration of criminal cases under the SC/ST Act on Mar 20th.
As per the amendment citizens are not to be arrested without inquiry and  government officials are not to be prosecuted without concern of proper authority.
This will liberate public servants from being blackmailed with false cases under the Act. This received severe outcry from Dalit community who fear it would result in increase of atrocities committed against Dalits.
Dalit outfits have called for a Bharat Bandh today against the amendment. Leaders of the community are seeking to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Congress party is set to organize a demonstration at Parliament on April 4.
