The union government of India has cancelled the recognition of 190 NGOs from Telangana state and 454 from Andhra Pradesh that includes Akkineni International Foundation. This NGO was established by Akkineni Nagarjuna in the year 2004 and since then it has been carrying out social activities and honouring people from various walks of life.
However, the Akkineni Foundation gets its maximum funds from abroad and as per Foreign Contribution Regulation Act, they should duly file the income tax (IT) returns every year. As the Akkineni Foundation failed to do so, the license was cancelled by the government. On other hand none from the Akkineni Foundation are yet to respond on the issue.
