Adhugo is a experimental film targeting children. It created buzz as Piglet plays lead role of the film. More than a decade ago Hollywood had come up with similar film with Piglet as protagonist titled ‘Babe’. Ravi Babu has got some innovative films like Nuvvila and Anasuya to his credit.
So, Adhugo has been on expectations. However, the film is total disappointment. There is nothing exciting in the script level itself. Uneven narration with silly scenes become tedious over a point. Unnecessary subplots makes it further confusing.
The film goes haywire as it progresses. Neither the slapstick comedy works nor the piglets VFX stunts. Characters are not properly designed. No episode is convincing and no emotion connects. It’s a wasted oppurtunity.
Ravi Babu is good in his role of sixpack Shankar. The comedy derived from his character and the manner in which he chases the piglet looks decent. The piglet has been created through VFX and for the budget chosen, the visual effects are decent enough.
Nabha Natesh is neat in her role but does not get enough screen time. There are a few comedy chases featuring the piglet which have been executed pretty well in the last five minutes of the first half. One of the villains who has anger management issues has been showcased in a funny manner. His track is decent but is a bit overdone during the climax.
VFX department needs a pat on the back as the piglet looks authentic. Prashanth Vihari’s music is average. Cinematography is decent. Production design needs special mention. Editing fails as the narration with backstories coming every now and then makes it weary to watch. Meddled script with no strong point to drive the story puts Adhugo on the line of fire.
Ravi Babu takes up a challenging concept with piglet as hero but fails to execute it. He complicated and messed up things with too many ideas. A simple thread with curious element could have been better appealing.
